Responsible Tourism
Â
Â
At Loughrea Equestrian Centre we take very seriously our responsibility towards the potential negative effects that tourism can have on the environment.
Â
We have taken a number of actions in order to minimize our enviromental impact.
Â
- We follow the Leave No Trace ethic and we ensure all our customers are educated on their principles
- In order to reduce paper waste, our business records is stored electronically as much as is feasibly possible
- Cardboard packaging, newspapers, magazines, glass, cans, plastic bottles etc are all returned for recycling
- We use enviromentally friendly cleaning products.
- We use an environmentally friendly composting toilet for our trails.
- As much as possible the food for the packed lunch is sourced from local producers. We purchase food from local farmers markets and butchers.
- On certain parts of our trail we hire a local historian to provide a talk on the local history and culture of the area.
- We encourage our staff to volunteer their time to local charities or organisations. This year our chosen charity is the Special Olympics taking part in Limerick in June 2010. A number of our staff have offered their services as volunteers for the event.
- We support enviromentally sustainable tourism by encouraging our guests to enjoy the walking trails in the area. we also encourage our customers to consider other means of travel rather than air travel, in particular utilising Rail and Sail travel.
How you can play your part
Â
- Familiarise yourself with the Leave No Trace ethic, and follow its principles. For further information on Leave No Trace click here.
- Whilst staying in your hotel, if you feel that you can reuse your towels, please hang them back on the bathroom rail
- Turn off all lights and electrical equipment when leaving your room
- Try not to run water unneccessarily.
We can all make a difference - it just takes small little changes, and an awareness of how our actions can impact on the environment.
